Meet Niterói
Niterói
With a population of 600,000, Niterói lies only 13 km across the Guanabara Bay from Rio de Janeiro, the state capital city. South Niterói faces the Atlantic Ocean, though. Niterói is surrounded by tropical woodland, has a number of sandy beaches as well as a couple of 16th century forts. Also, a visit to the fish market restaurants can be an amazing gastronomical experience.
In addition, Niterói is the site for various constructions designed by the renowned Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer. The Contemporary Art Museum and the Popular Theatre are two fine examples of Niemeyer’s work.
The population of Niterói has reasons to be proud: considered a “dormitory town” for years, the city has for some time now become a landmark in services and quality of life in Brazil, which is a proof that it is possible to grow in an organized way, creating jobs, generating income and attracting investments.
